Math in the Real World

Fifth Grade teachers and students are participating in a math project focusing on real life experiences. Ms. Lavacca's class (5-307) used digital cameras to capture geometric shapes in the world. Each student described the shapes adding details using the appropriate mathematical terms. The following pictures are some examples of the projects the students created:

Blogging:

Students on different grade levels are participating in our schools Community Blog. This blog is a resource for extending and enriching our learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. This site is used as a communication tool among students, teachers and the community. Currently you will see links to blogs for Second Grade, Fifth Grade and The Book Club.

Podcasting:

Students created digital media files that can be played back on any computer using Quicktime, itunes or media players. Our goal with Podcasting is to create episodes that demostrate students learning in content areas. These media files allows parents, teachers and students to observe the learning going on in the classroom. The following podcast was created by third graders in Ms. Cutrone's class as a culminating project after a six week study on China.
