One of the goals in our school is to help parents become active partners in their children’s education. We are constantly welcoming parents into our building, making it a comfortable place for them to visit and to be active participants in the school community. We provide workshops for our parents on various topics. For instance, we inform parents on the school’s curriculum and standards for the ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies and Technology. We also provide job related workshops, such as resume writing, job fairs and technology training for ELL parents. Other types of workshops we offer are related to health issues. We have a program called “Food For Thought”, which encourages families to have healthier eating habits.  Also, we have women related workshops concerning breast and cervical cancer awareness. Most importantly, our school provides onsite personnel to translate for any struggling parents who are trying to communicate with us.

One way of getting involved in your child's education is to join our Parent Teachers Association (PTA). The goals of the PTA at PS62 are:

  • to provide support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the children
  • to promote and help develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff of our school
  • to develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement
  • to foster and encourage parent participation on all levels
  • to provide opportunities and training for parents to participate in school governance and  decision-making as part of the Leadership Team

The PTA is actively raising money for our school through bake sales, candy sales and many other creative sources. Last year's funds went to purchasing a Grand Piano for our school's auditorium.

If you would like to volunteer your time as a PTA member or as a learning leader, please contact PS62's Parent Coordinator, Aura Fountain.
