Music
Children at PS 62 love their classes with Annie Addington, our own jazz vocalist who scats and swings with kindergarteners, plays recorder with 2nd and 3rd graders and delights in her string class with our 4th and 5th grade children. This year she will also have the added pleasure of a violist , Branton Caldwell, a violist and fellow who works with the children 1.5 days a week. Students will also attend performances at Carnegie Hall as part of this select partnership with The Academy.

Studio in a School
A teaching artist works with four early childhood classes in a variety of mediums throughout the school year. She is helping teachers to create art centers in their classrooms. She will also present parent workshops so that learning in the arts continues beyond the school day.

Puppetry in Practice
Youngsters a PS 62 cheer and hug Angelo De Cesaro when he comes into the school building. They delight in hearing a real author tell his humorous and witty stories of Flip’s Fantastic Journeys as well as help them to draw the characters just like he does.

Dance
Carlina Campagnola is our new dance teacher and children are really enjoying dance classes. The curriculum is aligned with the NYCDOE curriculum document: Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. From kindergarten to fifth grade, students learn about levels, directions, pathways, use of energy, spatial relationships, body shapes, body actions and so on. Each class begins with a warm up that is yoga based, emphasizing breathing, focus and concentration. The program has a strong emphasis on student creativity. Students frequently collaborate with others in creating dances that they can share with their peers and or/the rest of the student body.
Some children also attend Ballet Tech in Manhattan for half a day on one day a week and some attend an afterschool program where Khara Dalhouse teams up with Carlina to work with more students.

Spring Dance Festival
All classes participate in this annual celebration. Dances are choreographed by classroom teachers and students.
